At today’s Logan City Council meeting, Mayor Darren Power spoke out about the progress being made with regards to the Covid-19 pandemic, and his disgust at local anti-vaxxers.

“This week marks a major milestone on our recovery from Covid-19 as the first round of vaccines become available to some of our most vulnerable community members,” Mayor Power said.

“It’s the beginning of a national plan that will enable all Australians to have access to the Covid-19 vaccine by the end of 2021.

“It is a truly remarkable moment for science and is certainly great news for businesses and residents in Logan.”

Mayor Power said he planned to get the Covid-19 vaccination as soon as possible, and called for locals to ignore “village idiots” on social media.

“The problem with social media, as I’ve said before, is that it allows the village idiot to have a platform to be heard in our community,” he said.

“And the amount of rhetoric that’s going around in our community regarding anti-vaxxing is disgraceful.”

Mayor Power took a moment to reflect on how far medical science has come since children were dying from the measles on their way to Australia back in the 1800s.

He said he couldn’t believe Logan City locals would be standing against medical science.

“Village idiots should not be heard and social media is a disgrace,” he said.

“I just wish people would tune in to proper media and get their facts right.

“I will be putting my hand up for the vaccine.

“As soon as I’m allowed to get it, I’ll be getting it. Because I don’t want Covid-19.”
