Regents Park State School pre-prep teacher Sarah Wilson was voted ‘Brisbane’s teacher of the year’ in a community competition.
Ms Wilson said she was nominated by a Logan City resident, and then chosen by the competition creators to be in the top five.
“Once the top five were chosen it was then up to the public to vote for the winner via a Facebook competition,” she said.
“I feel so honoured and humbled to win.”
Ms Wilson said of the five finalists, she was the only Logan City teacher.
She has been teaching for over 13 years at Regents Park State School, where she was also a student.
“I started there in year three and saw it through,” she said.
“Then when I was at university I came back and worked as a teacher aide.
“I got my first teaching job here straight out of university and haven’t left.
“It’s a great school with great staff, a great community, and amazing students.”
Ms Wilson said teaching is her life passion and she can’t imagine not being a teacher.
