If you’re feeling a bit adventurous then Club Beenleigh’s lamington burger, which started out as a bit of a laugh, might be for you.

Head chef Chris McAuley said he started making the lamington burger last Australia Day.

“To try to be a little bit different to all the other clubs and pubs around us,” Chef McAuley said.

“I was making lamingtons last year and being a chef, you sometimes come up with some absurd ideas about food.

“We decided to make a double cheeseburger with a lamington bun for a laugh.

“All of the chefs in the kitchen gathered around and we shared it with mixed reviews.”

Chef McAuley said he actually liked the burger.

“I personally don’t mind the sweet and savoury mix, it’s kind of like dipping your chips in your ice cream sundae or thick shake or bacon on top of your pancakes,” he said.

“We thought we would put it on the menu for Australia Day last year for a bit of a laugh and for some social media action.

“It didn’t really pan out too well with only a handful being sold.

“However, this year it has drummed up some major excitement with a lot of people showing interest in it.

“The flavours are rich and beefy with a nice hit of salt from the bacon, vinegar from the pickles and of course soft and sweet from the lamington.”

What’s on the lamington burger:

Double angus beef, double bacon, double cheese, sweet pickles, mustard and tomato sauce on a house made lamington with fries.
