Logan locals are asked to front up and get vaccinated, as authorities ramp up vaccination efforts before the border opens.
The call comes as the City of Logan lags behind in vaccination rates, with less than half of the city’s eligible population fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
As of Monday, 42.4 per-cent of eligible people are fully vaccinated, while 64.1 per-cent have received their first dose.
There are 257,354 people living in the City of Logan Local Government Area that are eligible to get jabbed.
The vaccination figures are released as Queensland Minister for Health Yvette D’Ath MP says that Queensland borders could open up in the next five to six weeks.
“If someone wants a target, the target is getting yourself protected in the next five to six weeks.
“That is your mission, get yourself protected and that helps our whole community and allows us to open up.
“This virus will go into every single community once Queensland opens up, once Australia opens up.”
As part of ramping-up vaccination efforts, the Queensland Government has utilised pop-up vaccination hubs, vaccination vans, while several Bunnings stores at Logan will become vaccination hubs this weekend.
Queensland Treasurer and Member for Woodridge Cameron Dick MP has actively encouraged local Logan residents to get vaccinated, appearing at Woodridge State High School on the weekend as local schools became pop-up vaccination clinics.
Mr Dick says we all have a role to play in the battle against COVID.
“It’s never been easier to get your COVID-19 vaccine.
“If you haven’t got your vax yet, make today your day.”
In Queensland, 70.2 per-cent per-cent of people aged 16 and over have had one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, while 52.7 per-cent of people aged 16 and over are fully vaccinated.
