Logan police to put spotlight on road safety

  • Brian Lowe is an experienced journalist with a background in both broadcast and digital media. He has worked in both Australia and the United States, has hosted podcasts and has reported on a wide range of issues during his career.

The Logan Police District covers over 3,200 square kilometres across 70 suburbs and towns inland of the Gold Coast from Springwood to the NSW border.

This area encompasses two local council areas and is made up of farming land, residential acreages as well as city residential living and large business precincts and shopping centres. Two large motorways and the Mount Lindesay Highway also dissect this area with large traffic corridors crisscrossing between all three.

Due to the diversity and spread of this area, police have initiated Operation Own It to assist with their commitment to preventing crime and reducing deaths and serious injuries on our roads.

The start of this operation will mean officers in Logan will be focusing on road safety in coming months.

Drivers continue to speed and participate in other reckless fatal five driving behaviour resulting in daily serious and fatal traffic crashes occurring on our roads across the whole of Logan. It takes a moment of distraction to place you and everyone else in your car and on the road around you in danger.

Changing radio channels, looking at mapping devices and talking on mobiles phones can all very quickly lead to you being distracted from driving.

Simply, slow down, drive safe and arrive alive. Two eyes on the road and two hands on the wheel at all times.
