Logan City youth are being warned of the health effects from addiction to mobile phones after an Australia-first study measured levels of nomophobia – a no mobile phone phobia – among smartphone owners in Australia.
The Monash University study showed 99% of users have some fear of being without their phone and that people aged 18 to 25 had the highest level of nomophobia.
The study also found that mobile phones cause friction between the digital and physical worlds, with users depending on their phone for a sense of belonging, connectedness and social identity, possibly reducing their capacity to navigate social bonds offline.
