Preliminary construction has started on the Pacific Motorway (M1) near Springwood, as a part of the Watland Street to Sports Drive upgrade.

Alongside the M1, between Eleanor Avenue and Sports Drive, is where the majority of the construction will be.

These works are expected to take up to eight weeks to complete, depending on weather and site conditions.

Relocation of underground electricity infrastructure, underground water, sewer and storm water infrastructure has also commenced.

A laydown area for large pipes and equipment will be established in a vacant block of land, owned by TMR, between Eleanor Avenue and Springwood Road.

The construction works will include clearing vegetation, excavation, and trenching between Eleanor Avenue and Sports Drive.

Most of these works will be undertaken during standard daytime construction hours.

However, approximately two weeks of night works will be required to install infrastructure across Springwood Road.

During these works Springwood locals may experience construction impacts such as increased noise, dust and vibration, including from:

  • The use of trucks, excavators, and hand tools.
  • Noise from the use of construction equipment
  • Vehicles and equipment with flashing lights and reversing beepers for the safety of onsite workers.
  • Truck movements to deliver equipment and materials to and from site.
