Severe thunderstorm warning for heavy rain in Brisbane, Ipswich, Caboolture

The Bureau of Meteorology has warned of severe thunderstorms and possible flash flooding across parts of the Southeast Coast District this morning.

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for heavy rainfall covering parts of the Southeast Coast Forecast District, with the potential for flash flooding over the next several hours.

The warning was issued at 5:34 am on Thursday 22 October 2026. The Bureau said heavy rainfall is developing and severe thunderstorms are likely to produce falls that may lead to flash flooding in the warning area. Locations that may be affected include Brisbane, Caboolture, Ipswich, Jimboomba, Boonah and Springbrook.

Emergency services are advising people to:

• Park cars undercover and away from trees.
• Close doors and windows.
• Keep asthma medications close by, as storms and wind can trigger asthma attacks.
• Charge mobile phones and power banks in case the power goes out.
• Put pets somewhere safe and make sure they can be identified if they get lost.
• Not drive unless they have to, because conditions are dangerous.
• Tell friends, family and neighbours in the area.
• Go inside a strong building and stay there until the storm has passed.

The next warning is due to be issued by 8:35 am.

If severe thunderstorms develop in the Southeast Queensland area, east of Dalby from Rainbow Beach to Stanthorpe, a more detailed severe thunderstorm warning will be issued for that area. Other warnings may also be current.

Current warnings are available through the Bureau of Meteorology's warnings and alerts service, through TV and radio broadcasts, or by calling 1300 659 210. The Bureau and emergency services have asked that warnings be broadcast regularly.

This report is based on information released by Bureau of Meteorology.
