Six people have been rescued after becoming stranded by rising floodwater at a public campground in Leyburn on Monday morning, 26 October.
Emergency services received reports around 7.45am that the campers had become trapped inside the grounds on Tullamaville Road. The group included three men aged 71, 47 and 26, and three women aged 68, 26 and another woman whose age was not given in the release.
Queensland Fire and Rescue swiftwater crews responded, and all six people were rescued without incident around 11.15am. There were no reports of physical injuries.
With wet weather continuing to affect parts of the region, police are reminding the community to take extra care and avoid unnecessary risks around floodwaters.
Motorists are urged to remember: if it's flooded, forget it. Police say people should never drive through floodwater, as conditions can change quickly and the depth and current may be difficult to judge. They also urge people to stay informed about weather conditions, follow road closure signs and never enter floodwater on foot or in a vehicle.
For help in a life-threatening situation, phone Triple Zero (000) immediately. For non-life-threatening situations, such as a damaged roof or storm damage, phone the SES on 132 500.
