Police say a proposal to set up a border checkpoint in Logan City would be “Challenging” and probably “Not Legally possible”.
The idea was first proposed by Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate who suggested the Logan River section of the Pacific Motorway would be the best location for the checkpoint to save the glitter strip from future lockdowns.
He says police could check on workers returning to the Coast and stop Brisbane residents visiting.
Police have since responded to the idea, saying it would be hard to set up a checkpoint on the Logan City side of the border.
Officials say it’s not just the traffic, but the train line as well with hold ups on the passenger rail services that would also be subject to inspections.
Police have also questioned if isolating the Gold Coast at the Logan City border would be legal.
The concept of a Logan City border was raised with the Premier earlier this week.
In her response, Annastacia Palaszczuk talked about the Gold Coast being part of the eleven Local Government Authorities and officials would continue to monitor the covid threat from New South Wales.
