Logan City locals have been meeting to discuss the possibility of a Logan City rail trail, but it seems one group of locals have some valid safety concerns.

A main concern raised at one of the rail trail community consultations was the safety and wellbeing of residents of Palm Lakes Resort Bethania and Waterford, because the retirement villages back onto the proposed rail trail.

Some residents in attendance at the community consultation cited an incident which occurred in recent years where intruders damaged their gates as they broke into the resort.

They share their concern for the vulnerable and elderly people who live there in the retirement villages backing on to the proposed rail trail.

The response given was that this is the start of a conversation with the community and this type of feedback is what the committee was looking for.

“Consideration must be given to all residents that live adjacent to the trail,” they said.

Another attendee asked if the resorts had security gates backing onto the rail trail.

Residents admitted they did not.

Community members mentioned this is something the resort should look into to ensure the safety of their residents.

The feedback from these meetings will be circulated to consultation attendees and provided to Logan City Council, State Government, and specificallyTransport and Main Roads.
