The Scenic Rim could be getting a brand new community hub/library and the plans, which are now available, were 90% funded by the state government.

The plans were presented to councillors and those in the public gallery at this month’s ordinary council meeting. All councillors voted in favour of the community hub and library plans.

Mayor Christensen confirmed that no council funds were being allocated to the project just yet.

“As part of the acquittal process we’re required to submit the product which is the plans,” Mayor Christensen said.

“This does not commit us to a time frame.”

Back in 2016 a review of library spaces was undertaken by Peter Moeck of Peter Moeck Architecture. The review involved the assessment of current spaces in relation to national standards and the ability to deliver relevant and current services to our community as it grows into the future.

As part of the review it was flagged by Peter Moeck that a new community hub and library would need to be three times the size of the current Beaudesert library building footprint and into the future for 2031 it would need to be more than four times the size of the current footprint.

In April 2018, Council submitted a grant application to the Queensland Government’s Maturing the Infrastructure Pipeline Program 2 (MIPP2) to the value of $409,091 to undertake a cost benefit analysis and economic impact assessment and detailed design for the Beaudesert Community Hub and Library.

After a competitive process, Complete Urban were successful in securing the contract for both Stages One and Two (MIPP2 grant funded) to undertake a cost benefit analysis and economic impact assessment and detailed design for the Beaudesert Community Hub and Library project, and in addition a further stage (Council funded) for the design for the future use of the current Beaudesert Administration Centre.

Council submitted on 12 March 2021 a grant application to the Building Better Regions Fund
Round 5 to offset 50% of the project costs for the Beaudesert Community Hub and Library. It is expected that the outcome of the grant may be known sometime in August 2021.

Council was asked to consider the detailed designs that have been submitted for the Beaudesert Community Hub and Library so that the Queensland Government’s Maturing Infrastructure Pipeline Project 2 grant funding can be acquitted and a final report presented to the funding body.

Councillors said they were very impressed by the community hub and library designs.
Councillor Michael Enright said this project shows how the Scenic Rim Council always looks for avenues to offset costs.

“For our projects but also for the design of our projects,” Cr Enright said.

“This funding has provided 90% of the costs of the design which is a very important part of the process.

“$409,091 is a huge contribution to the critical design process of this critical project.”
