Detectives have charged a man after he allegedly stole money from a woman and set a car on fire in Logan.

It’s alleged that at 7:50am Thursday (Oct. 22), a woman was at an ATM off Mandew Street when a man armed with a knife approached her demanding her car keys. The woman screamed and the man grabbed cash out of her hand before running down Mandew Street.

Another man heard the woman scream and tracked the man to Tuff Court before losing him.

It’s further alleged around 8am, the man jumped into a Falcon sedan that was parked on Sunata Street with the keys in the ignition while the owner loaded some tools into the boot of the vehicle.

Police tracked it via a phone that was left in the vehicle to Short Street at Loganlea where they located the car, which had been set on fire.

Police found the man a short time later nearby and recovered the woman’s stolen money.

A 43-year-old Loganlea man has been charged with one count each of armed robbery, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and arson of a motor vehicle.

He’s due to appear in the Beenleigh Magistrates Court Friday.
