Logan’s Jeta Gardens aged care facility has stood down two of its senior managers on full pay after a COVID-19 outbreak in the centre.
Jeta Gardens CEO Wesley Carter said in a media release that the managers had been stood aside pending an independent investigation into standards of care at the service.
In the statement, Mr Carter asks residents not to spread rumours, or to be worried about media reports.
“I ask all residents, families and staff not to be concerned or allow rumours and innuendo to flourish.
“This is standard corporate protocol in this type of situation, and I will advise you of any updates as the situation progresses with regards to this.”
Jeta Gardens in Bethania, has been the subject of an Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission non-compliance order since last year after deficiencies were found in the nursing home’s COVID-19 outbreak management plan and concerns were raised about staffing level at the centre.
Earlier this year, a COVID-19 outbreak, resulted in 100 residents and 82 staff being infected with the virus.
16% of infected residents died, however the outbreak is now under control.
A restructuring of operations is expected to take place as a result of the outbreak.
“Our appointed Nurse Advisor continues to ensure that Jeta Gardens operations remain stable and on track with improvement, particularly in the areas of clinical care, complaints handling and overall compliance.
“Our independent Consultant Gerontologist is working closely with myself and the Board to restructure the senior management team and our Clinical Governance framework.”
Aged Care Services Minister Richard Colbeck says the Federal Government was concerned by the case, and the issues of understaffing at the centre.
