Waterford MP supports Queensland Women’s Week

Tomorrow March the 8th marks International Women’s Day but in Queensland it’s a week long celebration.

Waterford MP and Attorney General Shannon Fentiman says. “The theme this year is keep making noise.”

“We’ve seen some amazing women like Brittany Higgins and Grace Tame speaking out to encourage more women to demand equality, respect and safety and that conversation is far from over and that’s why we all have to keep making noise.”

Minister Fentiman adds that it “calls on us to continue to tell out stories and to build momentum and strive for change”

She says, “Sadly Australia’s record on gender equality is going in the wrong direction.”

Since 2006 Australia has gone backwards in the world Economic Forum Global Gender Index.

Ms Fentiman says, “We’ve gone from 15th in the world to 50th. If we’re going to achieve gender equality here in Queensland we need everyone to play their roles – communities, businesses, individuals and government’s.”
