A marketing expert is tipping the Western Corridor as having the best chance to form the newest NRL club in 2023 and that would affect Toowoomba.
University of Southern Queensland’s Jane Sumners said the bid which represents Ipswich and Toowoomba would have a lot of support.
“It suggests to me that there is actually a really big potential fan base here in this region of people who are already engaged in the game,” she said.
The NRL is looking to expand its competition by increasing the number of teams in its competition to 17 within two years.
A second team in Brisbane is the most likely location for that to happen with expansion to Perth, Adelaide and a second team in New Zealand all but being ruled out.
NRL boss Peter V’landys has already said that moving a struggling Sydney club to Queensland would not be considered by the NRL unless a team was to offer to move itself.
