Wet weather impacts Council projects

Recent wet weather has delayed the delivery of several vital capital projects across the Scenic Rim region.

Scenic Rim Regional Council received an update on the Capital Works Program delivery in this week’s Ordinary Meeting.

Council was made aware that wet weather has delayed progress on the construction of a new landfill cell at the Bromelton Landfill Waste Facility, the Lake Moogerah upgrade, the Beaudesert-Nerang Road footpath, the Duck Creek Bridge and Flying Fox Bridge projects, as well as several road projects across the region.

All materials for liners for the new landfill cell at the Bromelton Landfill Waste Facility have been sourced, with limited delivery delays anticipated at this stage.

The majority of the remaining projects for the new landfill cell are scheduled accordingly.

The rehabilitation of the current landfill cell is scheduled to commence towards the end of this financial year, with project completion programmed for 2022-2023, as the cell is still in use and will remain so for a number of months.

Recent weather and availability of material has impacted the delivery of the Lake Moogerah upgrade and electrical safety projects.

Despite this, the project is estimated to be completed by the end of May.

Wet weather also delayed the start of the Beaudesert-Nerang Road footpath.

The project recently commenced, with completion scheduled for this financial year.

The Duck Creek Bridge and Flying Fox Bridge projects experienced delays in piling, due to weather conditions in November and December last year.

A number of road related projects have seen delays of up to two months in delivery, primarily due to the severe rainfall event late last year.

To recover lost time resulting from wet weather, worksite hours have been extended to include RDOs and Saturdays.

Contractors are also sourcing additional resources to recover lost time.
