A person has been taken to hospital after a multi vehicle crash on the M1..

A ute collided with a barrier just before 5 this morning, before six other vehicles crashed a short distance away at Coomera.

Paramedics have assessed a total of 7 people.

One person was taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition with head and neck injuries.

Police have closed the Pacific Motorway northbound at Coomera, with diversions in place.

Motorists heading into Brisbane will then fine a thick blanket of fog causing more issues on their drive to work this-morning.

The low lying cloud is stretching from the New South Wales border up to the Sunshine Coast and as far west as Kingaroy and the Darling Downs.

But the Weather Bureau says the fog will eventually burn off.
