Bat orphan season

  • Brian Lowe is an experienced journalist with a background in both broadcast and digital media. He has worked in both Australia and the United States, has hosted podcasts and has reported on a wide range of issues during his career.

Apart from it being koala breeding season right now, it is also bats orphan time.

Bat Conservation and Rescue Queensland says often, mother bats can be electrocuted on overhead power lines but their babies survive by being tucked up under their wings.

BCRQ is asking folks in Logan City and the Scenic Rim to contact them if they find a bat on its own on the ground, or in some kind of trouble.

As well as on power lines and on the ground, they say bats can also be found on barbed wire fences and in fruit tree netting.

If you find one please call the BCRQ rescue hotline on 0488 228 134.

More information can be found at the Bat Conservation and Rescue Queensland website.
