The latest COVID-19 scare for South-East Queensland has resulted in the cancellation of the Under 14’s Boys State Basketball Championships which had been set for the Darling Downs.

The event was scheduled to be held this Friday in Toowoomba, bringing in an estimated half a million dollars to the local economy.

The Toowoomba Basketball Association has said it’s disappointed to hear the event has been cancelled.

Association president Jamie Biggar said ” it was heart breaking to receive confirmation that after a year of planning,  the event has ended this way. We’ve already made the request to host the event next year”.

Originally,  the event was going to be subject to restrictions but after the announcement of a lockdown for South-East Queensland,  officials felt the event couldn’t proceed.
