Help arrives from sky at Flagstone

Help arrived from the sky for a Flagstone resident, who needed a generator to power specialist medical equipment during the ongoing flood.

The worst flood to hit Logan in four decades has caused a range of problems for residents around the region, including a Flagstone resident who had their generator providing power for palliative care equipment fail.

Southern Cross Care Queensland worker Christine Richards says she was determined to find a solution.

“I was talking to a client who was isolated and needed a generator.

“So I called Louie Naumovski to see if he knew someone, he called Deputy Mayor Jon Raven, who organised Councillor Scott Bannan.”

Councillor Scott Bannan was inspecting flood damage and conducting flood mapping from the air, when the call for help arrived.

Councillor Bannan paid tribute to the pilot of the helicopter.

“I didn’t really do anything, it was more the good work of the pilot to safely land the helicopter on the front yard.

“He was very thorough before he did it, but we did what we had to do for this medical emergency.”

After landing, Councillor Bannan says they sought help from members of the local community.

“There are so many good people around, we knocked on a couple of doors of some neighbours, who were super helpful.

“A friend of mine who was driving past as I was there, she had a generator, so she went back and got her generator, we got some fuel sorted, we got it all hooked up and then we left there.

“We didn’t want to make a fuss out of it, it was just us helping out.”

Councillor Bannan says it is great to see fellow Logan City residents helping each other out.

“The Logan community is awesome, every fundraiser and event is well supported, they’re just great people.

“The way the community rallies is next level.

“I know the Mayor Darren Power is incredibly proud of the area.”
