A family is mourning the loss of their young son who died just hours after being discharged from Logan Hospital.
Five year old Hiyaan Kapil had been suffering stomach pains for several days when his parents made the decision to take him to the hospital on Sunday night.
After waiting for four hours in the emergency room Hiyaan was discharged at 10pm and taken home, but was brought back by his father at midnight when he collapsed.
He died just two hours after he was discharged from Logan Hospital on Sunday night.
A family friend, Rajbir Gill, told Channel 9 that he received a message at around 2am telling him that Hiyaan, a student at Bethania Lutheran College, had died.
“He was very happy as a child. Always happy”
“What happened? That’s the only question.”
Hiyaan had started prep at Bethania Lutheran College in February.
Metro South Health has now started an inquiry into the boy’s death.
Police have confirmed a report on Hiyaan’s death will be prepared for the coroner.
