Local Olympic heartbreak

  • Scott Mayman is an award-winning radio presenter and journalist who has worked professionally in both Australia and in the United States and is also a Correspondent for CBS News Radio in New York.

Skye Nicolson – the boxing sensation from the Beenleigh Yatala region has been left shattered after exiting the Olympics.

Last night,  she fell just short in the quarter finals of the women’s boxing event.

The 25 year old sat down in the ring – put her hands over her face and wept after her opponent won the match in a split  decision.

Speaking after the event,  Nicolson told media that it was hard to put the loss into words.

“I came here with one goal and that was a gold medal and I truly believed that I was going to win it. So to go out now is really, really hard for me.’’

Despite the loss, Nicolson remains Australia’s most successful female boxer and the only woman to progress to an Olympic quarter-final.

As previously reported by My News Feed,  she took gold at the Commonwealth Games in 2018 and has been competing since she was 12 years of age.
