Logan City Council adamant Beenleigh pool will be upgraded

Logan City Council is adamant the upgrade of the Beenleigh pool at the Aquatic Centre is still going ahead.

A Council spokesperson says, “Detailed design works for an upgrade of the facility and the surrounding precinct are continuing.”

“This significant project will also complement and form part of Logan City Council’s  $15 million Dauth Park Precinct master plan.”

The planning and design phase of the project was allocated $700,000 in funding late last year.

Once that work is completed construction of the 50 metre pool is expected to begin.

Last year Division 12 Councillor Karen Murphy said locals will be glad to see the long-requested upgrade delivered.

“The Beenleigh Pool is well overdue for an upgrade, I’ve been advocating for this ever since I was elected. “

“It’s something locals have been asking for a long time.”

“The old pool was built many moons ago in the time of feet and inches and no longer meets the needs of our growing community or modern swimming standards. “

“I can’t wait to see the detailed design and for shovels to go in the ground.”

Today a request for an interview with Councillor Murphy was passed onto the Media Department at Logan City Council.

In response to criticism of the pool Logan residents have taken to social media to voice their concerns

Toni Ray says, ”You can’t swim in the indoor pool I won’t be going back staff are so rude my son was swimming and he went to far he got into trouble for holding on to the lap lane rope no one was even swimming in them all they do is talk they don’t look to see if something goes wrong in the pool.”

Lynda Pedder also expressed her concerns “All true on the tile front. I watched the manager tell the staff (young lifesaver) to scrub the tiles whilst I was swimming and it was almost comical.”

“After about 15 minutes of him lying on the edge of the pool and scrubbing, about one tile was kind of white. It just made it more obvious how dirty the tiles actually are.”

“The new indoor pool they built is not deep enough for swimming without touching the bottom at one end and I don’t have long arms. Kingston pool is marginally better.”

“Bethania is OK but closed in Winter. When you compare how pools are managed on the Gold Coast it is pretty disgraceful.”

“Council have been talking about putting a pool in that site for over 10 years and then they only did a mini upgrade.”

“Don’t hold your breath waiting for them to improve it. I stated to the Councillor back in 2012/13 that Beenleigh needed an Olympic pool and they just put in the little indoor pool instead (with much fanfare).”
