A Beenleigh business has taken a unique DIY approach to providing opportunities to locals and finding new employees.
Residential Scaffold recently hosted a two-day employment workshop for those interested in becoming a scaffolder.
The two-day workshop was an opportunity for participants to speak to people from the industry, get hands on with the materials and discuss the possibility of a future career with the business owners.
Although hosted at their Coopers Plains site, the workshop saw several participants from Logan take part.
Residential Scaffold’s Recruitment and Sales Manager Steve Logan says the workshop offered participants a unique experience.
Mr Logan says the first-of-its-kind workshop was a resounding success.
“The great success yesterday was that we had 15 attend, 12 were offered positions and start Monday.
“So we’re already enjoying a good success rate.”
Mr Logan says the workshop was an opportunity to get a feel for the environment and equipment, before they make a decision.
“There is nothing worse than choosing to go and do something, then finding out it is the wrong fit for you.
“It provided an opportunity for the participants to get a taste of what they can achieve, speak to people who’ve been at their level and have gone on to the next level.”
Residential Scaffold’s Director Tim Golder says the workshop is a great example of how an industry can build interest and attract staff at this difficult time.
“What we looked at was the change in generation.
“A lot of people are looking for flexible hours, the younger people want a better lifestyle, compared to wanting to work a lot.
“By getting them to come in here, it gives them an opportunity to see what the work involves.
“Rather than throwing someone in the deep end and they either make it or break it, here they can have a go, see what the company is about and have the potential to find work.”
Residential Scaffold provides steel scaffold solutions within the building and construction space throughout South-East Queensland.
The company prides itself on having a local workforce, employing staff from Eagleby and Beenleigh in the Beenleigh yard.
