The Springwood Tigers Junior Rugby League Club has copped more than its fair share of damage from the weekend round of storms to hit Logan City, with multiple trees uprooted and one falling onto the clubhouse.
Club president Kaye Thompson said the damage was significant.
“It’s really bad and will take some time to clean up,” she said.

“The tree landed on our change rooms roof so those will need to be done up before they can be used again.
“They were only a few years old too.”
Ms Thompson said while what happened was unfortunate, it could have been worse.
“While it’s pretty bad and a mess right now I’m just grateful it was an empty clubhouse on the street and not someone’s home that had some trees fall on it,” she said.
“It’s tough but we’ll be okay. We’ve got insurance.”

Despite some confusion with false claims Logan City Council could take up to 25 days to resolve storm damage and Division 11 Councillor Lisa Bradley saying she was unaware of the damage, Ms Thompson said Council was already fixing the issue.
“We have a few club members who work with Council and after a few phone calls they’re already working at clearing the trees and cleaning it up,” she said.
“It won’t be easy though. It’s pretty bad.”
Councillor Lisa Bradley, whose division the clubhouse falls in, said she was unaware of the clubhouse’s extensive storm damage.
“I’d like to encourage locals to contact their councillors directly so we can try to make things happen as quickly as possible,” she said.

“I can’t do much if I don’t know about it.
“I will definitely be looking into the issue.”
Another Council Spokesperson said Logan SES responded to 13 call outs on Sunday mainly for fallen branches in the Springwood/Rochedale South areas.

“The Council-owned East Springwood Tigers clubhouse at Tallowood Park was also damaged by a fallen tree,” they said.
“Council officers are working to remove the tree before assessing the damage.”
