Logan Thunder has just announced that 2021 NBL1 North Coach of the Year Luke Cann has re-signed as head coach of the McDonald’s Logan Thunder Men for the 2022 NBL1 North Season.
Luke, who lead the McDonald’s Logan Thunder Men to a 12 win and 1 loss regular season record in 2021, was awarded coach of the year for the second time in three years.
As head coach of the McDonald’s Logan Thunder Men, Luke has maintained continued success leading the program to three straight finals appearances including two semi-finals in 2018 and 2021.
“Luke returning is the first step towards looking to replicate the success of last year and compete for a championship again in 2022,” General Manager Mitch Young says.
“Luke has a strong passion for Thunder basketball and it has been an exciting journey both as a player and an administrator working with Luke as the Thunder men’s program has continued to ascend,”
“Luke’s ability to build relationships with players and continued commitment to Thunder culture defining on court success have made him one of the best at this level. I am excited to work with Luke again in 2022 with what will be another talented McDonald’s Logan Thunder Men’s roster.”
On returning as Thunder head coach, Luke says for him the opportunity to build on the culture built within the group and challenge of going deeper into finals is what is driving him.
“Last years success was more than wins and losses,” Luke says.
“It was one of the more unique experiences I have had as a coach with the stoppages and line up changes we dealt with: to ultimately lose only two games for the season was a great accomplishment for the club but ultimately the feeling of going one more week is what we are after.
“I believe the key to going further this year will be adapting as a group, stay true to who we are and what we represent while being able to be self aware enough to make some changes that will help us be successful. We will look to add some front court depth as well as keep as many of the team together as we can. It’s always a challenge to bring back teams after successful seasons but it will be a goal to keep the core together and hit the ground running in 2022.”
The McDonald’s Logan Thunder Men will begin preseason training in March.
