Don’t be surprised if there’s a bit of smoke across Logan City and the Scenic Rim from tomorrow (Thursday) afternoon.
The Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service will conduct a burn at Buccan Conservation Park after it was postponed today due to the windy conditions..
The operation is part of the service’s annual hazard reduction program for parks and forests.
“The aim of this burn is to reduce the volume of forest fuels and to create a mosaic pattern of burnt and unburnt areas,” the Department of Environment and Science said.
“This will help reduce the intensity of any subsequent wildfires and provide favourable conditions for natural forest regeneration.”
Smoke from the burn may be seen in Buccan, Logan Village Yarrabilba, Bahrs Scrub and Wolffdene. Residents with respiratory problems should keep windows and doors closed, and medication close by.
Authorities urge motorists to drive safely when visibility is poor due to smoke.
