The festive season is almost here, and as we near the end of a second year impacted by the social and economic burden of COVID-19, the Salvation Army anticipate peoples’ needs at Christmas will reach a new peak under the pressure of the pandemic.
The Salvation Army is hoping to raise $20 million this year across the country as they launch their annual Christmas Appeal in the Scenic Rim to support Queenslanders doing it tough during the festive season.
“Christmas is the busiest time of the year for The Salvos in the Scenic Rim, and we expect this year to be no different. While Christmas is a time of joy and celebration for many, others doing it tough in our community find it an extremely difficult period for them personally,” Captain Wes Bust, Fassifern Corps Officer, says.
“The increased isolation, financial stress and mental health impacts of COVID-19 this year will only exacerbate these issues.
“The Salvos want to leave no one in need this Christmas, and we need the generosity of the public this year to once again partner with us in support of locals doing it really tough.
“Anyone in need this Christmas can reach out to us at Fassifern Corps in the Scenic Rim by calling 07 5463 4824 and we’ll do all we can to support you.
“We don’t want anyone to go it alone this year, if you need food, gifts, financial support or are feeling lonely, please get in touch with us.
“We are also in need of the Scenic Rim community to dig deep and provide donations to The Salvation Army to ensure that we can support our local community in need this Christmas.
“We are in need of toys, non-perishable food, and these can be dropped off at The Salvation Army Store in Boonah.”
Last year during the Christmas period, The Salvation Army distributed over 64,000 hampers and vouchers worth over $1.89 million to those finding it almost impossible to make ends meet and gave out over 26,000 gifts and toys to families in need.
The Salvation Army will be hosting a number of local events this year, including Kalbar Community Carols on the 12th December 2021, at the Kalbar State School commencing at 7pm. Free Sausage Sizzle provided by the Fassifern Lions Club from 6pm.
You can donate to The Salvation Army’s Christmas Appeal at salvationarmy.org.au or by calling 13 SALVOS (13 72 58).
Donations can also be made in person at any Salvos Store and Kmart store, or round up your instore purchase at any Myer store.
