Mobile blackspots reduction plan for Southern Downs

Southern Downs Regional Council is keen to fix the mobile phone black spot problems in the region.

The Federal Government has committed $380-million to the program to improve mobile coverage across Australia.

To fix the problem additional mobile phone base stations need to be installed in the region.

The program is supported by co-contributions from state and local governments, Optus, Telstra, TPG the Field Solutions Group, businesses and local communities.

The Government is continuing to work with industry and state and the Southern Downs Regional Council to improve connectivity across Australia, particularly in disaster-prone areas.  Improving coverage in natural disaster-prone areas is critical for keeping people connected during times of emergency.

To date the Government’s commitment to the program has generated a total investment of more than $875 million, to deliver more than 1,270 new mobile base stations across Australia.
