Toowoomba’s Wellcamp airport has again been overlooked as a potential site for a Quarantine facility.
Instead, the Prime Minister has written to the Premier, proposing to set up a quarantine hub next to Brisbane airport, which cold be up and running by early next year.
In a letter to Annastacia Palaszuk, Scott Morrison suggests turning the Damascus Barracks at Pinkenba into a one-thousand bed facility.
It includes an offer to pay for the facility if the State Government builds and runs it.
Ms Palaszczuk had been pushing for the hub to be established next to Wellcamp airport.
The Premier is still considering the contents of the letter.
The proposal from Canberra follows five months of fighting over a proposed facility connected to the Wellcamp Airport in Toowoomba, which has been all but rejected by the Federal Government.
