Councillor Lisa Bradley said she would encourage locals to rally together if they don’t want to see another two childcare centres on Lamorna St at Rochedale South.

Last week Cr Bradley sent out letters to residents and businesses on Lamorna St at Rochedale South to warn of another childcare centre application, following on from a three month campaign to stop the first child care centre from being built on the residential street.

If both child care centre development applications are successful, there will be a total of seven childcare centres within a 1km radius.

Cr Bradley said she informed locals via mail and on Facebook.

“I’ve heard from many locals who have expressed their frustration over yet another development application,” she said.

“They’re not happy and are quite concerned.”

Cr Bradley said both childcare centre development applications have used a ‘stop the clock’ provision under the Planning Act 2016 to pause the Council decision making period, while they attempt to resolve the outstanding matters.

“This means Council Officers are unable to make a decision regarding the development applications,” she said.

Cr Bradley said while she cannot directly stop the development applications from going ahead, she would encourage residents to start a petition.

“For the first childcare centre Rochedale South locals banded together to create a petition against the centre,” she said.

“I believe it got over 250 signatures.

“This would be a good way to move forward and campaign against the second development application too.”

Cr Bradley also said Council Officers confirmed residents are welcome to ring them if they have any queries on the proposal. They can be contacted on 3412 5269.
