Despite continuous rainy weather, work to replace the existing Flying Fox timber bridge on Upper Coomera Road, Ferny Glen is progressing.
The Scenic Rim Regional Council appointed a specialist bridge and road contractor last year, to replace the existing timber bridge, with a dual lane concrete bridge.
Deck units were installed last week to support a new dual lane concrete bridge, which will provide long-term benefits for our community.
The project also involves upgrades to the approaching roads including road widening, geometry and drainage improvements, minor alterations to driveway access, removal and replacement of culverts and the removal of trees.
Initially slated to be completed in March, the project has experienced delays in piling, due to weather conditions in November and December last year and was further delayed by the flood event earlier this year.
While these works are being undertaken, nearby property owners, local residents, and visitors to the Ferny Glen, Illinbah, Flying Fox communities may experience a level of inconvenience.
The project is jointly funded by Scenic Rim Regional Council and the Australian Government’s Bridges Renewal Program.
