Council gearing up for inaugural ‘Groovin in the Garden’ event

The new ‘Groovin’ in the Garden’ live music event is set to go ahead this February, with the Western Downs Regional Council encouraging the community to come along and enjoy an afternoon of local food and music.

Set in the award-winning Chinchilla Botanic Parkland, the event will offer an array of local food vendors, as well as a licenced bar area. Visitors can join in the lawn games or relax and enjoy the incredible line-up of local and regional musicians playing into the night.

“We are so excited to launch this exciting event, which is about getting involved in our active, vibrant communities and enjoying music from some fantastic local musicians,” said Council Spokesperson for Community and Cultural Development Cr Kaye Maguire.

“You’ll hear some wonderful tunes by several local talents who were top performers in our Groovin in the Garage initiative earlier in the year including Kadi Lillis, Olivia Gilmour, and Alexander Johnson a.k.a. Ben Slater, as well as well-known regional bands including Pepper Jane, Hat Fitz & Cara and Huckleberry Gin.”

Cr Maguire said the event would give locals an opportunity to head outdoors and enjoy a fantastic afternoon of live music in the Parkland.

“A great variety of local food vendors will also be on site, and bar facilities will also be offered for people aged 18 and over,” she said. “With food, drinks, live music and a beautiful atmosphere, Groovin in the Garden has all the ingredients for a fabulous summer afternoon and evening in the Parkland with friends and family.”

The inaugural ‘Groovin’ in the Garden’ is a family friendly event on 20 February, with live music kicking off at 4pm.

“I encourage residents to get in and book their tickets early by visiting Council’s website,” Cr Maguire said. “Tickets are only $10 per person, with kids under 13 free to attend, and you need only pack a picnic rug, and some cash for food and drink.”

‘Groovin’ in the Garden’ is a COVID-safe event and attendees will be required to sign in upon arrival. If you are unwell, please stay at home.

The event is delivered by Western Downs Regional Council and the Queensland Government’s Arts Queensland Play Local Funding.
