Detectives from the Synthetic Drug Operations Unit and Drug & Serious Crime Group have arrested a 27-year-old man in Rochedale South in connection with dark-net drug supply.

It comes as part of operation Sierra Glider, an investigation into the use of dark-net accounts to advertise illicit drugs for sale.

As a result of a search warrant of the man’s Rochedale South address on December 9, detectives seized an electronic ledger containing approximately 4.5 Bitcoins (worth approximately $112,000), $25,000 cash, a mobile phone and a quantity of steroids.

A Rochedale South man was subsequently charged with supplying dangerous drugs, possession of dangerous drugs, possession of things used in the commission of a drug offence and possession of property obtained from supply of dangerous drugs.

He is due to appear in the Beenleigh Magistrates Court on January 12, 2021.

Drug & Serious Crime Group Detective Acting Superintendent Troy Pukallus said: “This arrest highlights the specialised capability emerging in the State Drug Squad, targeting drug trafficking via the dark-net and the use of cryptocurrency to facilitate criminal offences.”
