More COVID-19 testing clinics are now making it easier to get tested by scrapping referrals from GPs.
With more than 20 COVID-19 testing clinics in Logan City, community members can visit 23 of the clinics without needing a doctor’s referral, and 21 of the clinics without a GP referral or booking required.
LNP shadow Health Minister Ros Bates says common sense has prevailed, but more resources and longer hours are still needed to meet the demand.
It comes at a time when Queensland health authorities are warning that the risk of the coronavirus escaping hotel quarantine is escalating.
This follows 18 cases of COVID-19 acquired overseas being recorded in hotels in the last week.
As a consequence, Queensland’s chief health officer Dr Jeanette Young is doubling down on the system.
“It is quite a complex process and I’ve now required anyone who’s working in those hotels and has contact with people to get tested every seven days,” she said.
