The Eagleby Community Wetlands Group hosted a very successful Clean Up Australia Day event in Logan City over the weekend, and were able to collectively clean up 20 big bags of rubbish.

President of the group Marilyn Goodwin said they had 49 people turn up on on Sunday March 7.

“We had a great turnout,” she said.

“Uncle Peter Eather gave a Welcome to Country before the community got together to Clean Up the Wetlands and other areas in Eagleby.

“It’s wonderful to see the pride people are taking in this very special place.”

Ms Goodwin said they cleaned up about 20 of the yellow bags pictured.

“Old tyres, tents, sleeping bags, lumps of concrete and metal. You name it,” she said.

“It was a great exercise in community working together, building relationships and developing greater pride in the area.”

Logan City Councillor Karen Murphy was in attendance and said it was a great event.

“The event was fantastic,” she said.

“Great chance to encourage the community pride.”
