Logan City volunteers sewing for a cause

A group of hard working Logan City volunteers have already sewn and donated over 30,000 much needed items to the local community this year – and it’s only March.

Mission Possible Volunteers is a not for profit volunteer group that was founded by Logan City local Gail Harrower twenty years ago.

Ms Harrower said she used to work for an organisation where people receiving government money had to volunteer in their local communities first, she said this was replaced by Centrelink.

“I was in a supervisor job for work for the dole,” she said.

“They had to do so many hours volunteering to get their money. Which was a very good idea and had a 97% success rate in getting these people eventually employed.

“But when that program stopped I started up Mission Possible Volunteers.”

Now the community minded ladies at Mission Possible Volunteers volunteer their time to sew much needed items for local hospitals, kids in need, community projects, and more.

“For me it’s a full time job,” Ms Harrower said.

“I’m in here nearly every day. If I’m not then I’m on the road delivering sewn items or giving talks about what we do to other community groups.

“It’s a very rewarding experience. Volunteering is good for the soul. It provides us with a sense of purpose as well as companionship with like minded people.

“When you’ve been volunteering with people for twenty years they become your family.”
