A business case is finally being prepared to investigate the duplication of Beaudesert-Beenleigh Road between Milne Street and Tallagandra Road at Mount Warren Park, following on from a delay in state funding which has also pushed back construction.

The project secured $5 million in funding from the federal government’s urban congestion fund in early 2019 but had not received a matching commitment by the state government until August 2020.

Federal Member for Forde Bert van Manen said while the delay in state government approvals was disappointing and had pushed back construction timelines for the congestion busting project, it was pleasing to finally see some action.

“This planning work should have been done months ago and sadly, residents will be left waiting even longer before shovels hit the ground,” Mr van Manen said.

“We know how congested this section of road is, especially during school pick up and drop off times.

“I’m encouraging all residents who use this road to participate in the community consultation and have their say.”

Mr van Manen said the upgrade was needed to ease congestion and improve road safety for residents.

“The current size of the road cannot keep up with demand. It presently goes from one lane to two lanes and to one lane again. It just doesn’t make sense.” Mr van Manen said

A flyer has been distributed by TMR with the project details. Residents can give feedback about the proposed upgrade during the business case phase of the project, please contact the project team on 1800 955 933 or via email at southcoast@tmr.qld.gov.au.
