“Its the inaugural Red Shield Appeal Breakfast that’s been staged in Logan,” says Rowan Johnstone, Relationship Ambassador for The Salvation Army, a regional role that stretches from the Tweed Valley to Logan and out to Dalby.
“It’s been going in SEQ towns for many years…but thanks to the Logan Chamber of Commerce who is hosting the breakfast, it’s now in Logan.”
Rowan says the event will include some presentations on what The Salvos do, including a testimonial speaker from local Kevin Lawler, who journeyed with The Salvation Army.
The breakfast is also a chance for the local organisation to showcase the its work in the community, including work untaken by volunteers during recent Logan floods.
“The beauty of The Red Shield Appeal is that the community appeal happening this weekend in shopping centres, all that money raised in Logan, stays in Logan to help locals,” Rowan says.
The Salvation Army offers a whole range of services from emergency relief to free financial counselling.
“What we aim to do, is leave no one in needed, and The Red Shield Appeal helps us achieve this in local areas.”
