Scenic Rim Regional Council Mayor Greg Christensen has been nominated to be part of a regional working group for south east Queensland ahead of the 2032 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games.
Councillor Christensen says the aim of the group is to ensure that councils can participate in deliberations and planning for the Games.
“It’s about having a reference group on behalf of the Council of Mayors to provide efficient input and contribution to the planning for the Games.”
“What has been identified for us is the participation of a venue at Wyaralong Dam and potential satellite housing at Kooralbyn, which then creates the need to think about what that will be like from an infrastructure point of view.”
Councillor Christensen says the proposal also nominated Division 4 councillor Michael Enright to serve as proxy at meetings he won’t be able to attend.
“The practicality is that the majority of the focus for infrastructure and certainly for the major challenge potentially for an athlete village and athlete transport all rest within the footprint of Division 4.”
“Therefore I believe that Division 4 has the greatest community connected interest. That’s where the majority of challenges will be found.”
