The RACQ renews its push to stop car theft

  • Rod Stephen is a former television journalist and has worked as Foreign Editor for the Seven Network, Australian Bureau Chief for TV3 New Zealand, UK correspondent for Seven and ABC radio and as a producer for Reuters TV in London as well as SBS in Sydney and Melbourne before returning to Brisbane to work at 4BC.

Logan City and Scenic Rim motorists are being reminded to protect their car keys in a renewed push by the RACQ to stop vehicle theft.

New research by the Club has found that 70 percent of Queenslanders admitted to storing their keys in easy to steal places including inside their cars.

The warning came after RACQ insurance claims data revealed Logan City and the Scenic Rim  have been two of the worst area for car theft in the last three years

RACQ spokesperson Kirsty Clinton says the Club had received more than 3,600 insurance claims for stolen cars in the past three years.

She  has said your car keys should be treated as a very valuable possession.

“ Treat your keys like cash. If you wouldn‘t leave a few thousand dollars on the front seat of your car or on the table just inside your front door then don’t leave your keys there. Put them inside a draw, put them somewhere out of sight and that way they’re less tempting to thieves”
