Police are taking a hardline approach when it comes to hooning in the Toowoomba CBD.

One man has found out the hard way with his vehicle being impounded after he was allegedly caught doing burnouts last week in James Street.

Officers were conducting a routine patrol when it’s alleged they witnessed the driver stopped at the red light,  but doing a burnout.

He was then arrested and further charged with drink driving after allegedly returning a blood alcohol reading of point zero seven eight.

Apart from a court day for the drink driving charge, police impounded his vehicle for the hooning offence.
