Two teenage drivers clocked at 73 kilometres an hour over the speed limit

Two teenage provisional licence holders have been handed hefty fines and have lost a combined total of 16 demerit points after an alleged speeding incident at Jimboomba.

The penalty also includes a six month loss of licence.

The charges were levelled after two cars were clocked doing 173 kilometres an hour in a 100 kilometre an hour zone on the Mount Lindesay Highway last Sunday at 2 in the morning.

Police initially stopped a 17-year-old Mount Warren Park driver, and issued a $1286 infringement notice for speeding, along with eight demerit points.

Officers gave the same penalties to an 18-year-old Cedar Grove man later in the day.

Jimboomba police have encouraged people to report speeding drivers by using the Hoon Hotline on 134 666.
