Water bomber to return

The water-bombing aircraft that was extensively used in the Scenic Rim during last year’s bushfire threat – is making a return following a four year deal between the aircraft operators and the Queensland Government.

The Large Air Tanker – a Conair Q400 was used in last year’s Kooralbyn bushfire before flying to Bundaberg where it was being temporarily housed.

The performance of the Bombadier Dash-8 aircraft impressed the Queensland Government,  which has confirmed it’ll be returning to Sunshine state in a joint arrangement with Victoria.

Authorities say it’ll be based in Queensland during the state’s upcoming bushfire threat,  then will be flown to Victoria when the Sunshine State typically ends its bushfire period and begins the storm and wet season.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services Commissioner Greg Leach says the plane will be available until the end of the 2024 bushfire season.
