Bushwalkers urged to be cautious

  • Rod Stephen is a former television journalist and has worked as Foreign Editor for the Seven Network, Australian Bureau Chief for TV3 New Zealand, UK correspondent for Seven and ABC radio and as a producer for Reuters TV in London as well as SBS in Sydney and Melbourne before returning to Brisbane to work at 4BC.

Bushwalkers are being reminded to be cautious if they’re planning an excursion across Logan City and the Scenic Rim.

Mount Barney continues to be a popular destination for hikers, and Senior Sgt Natalie Cole from Beaudesert police has said it’s also a high risk hike for those who are not prepared.

“We’re asking people to make sure they let others be aware of their plans when they are going hiking,” she said.

“Also, police advise you take enough water in case you get stranded”.

She adds a good pair of shoes will be required if trekking up Mount Barney and if you find yourself in trouble,  call early in the day when there’s enough light for a rescue to take place.
