A Logan City local has called for ‘idiots’ attempting to cross flooded roads to be more careful, after a car with two children on board has ended up stuck in flood waters across a Logan City road; as the heavy rain continues to fall and the region experiences flash flooding.
A Bahrs Scrub local Anthony Caisley said he was on scene shortly after the car got stuck in flooded water across Bahrs Scrub Rd, Logan City.
“The road is clearly signed that it is closed due to flooding but people still drive through,” Mr Caisley said.
“Unfortunately this time unsuccessfully.
“This road floods all the time in two places – the spot where this pic was taken, and further along at the Beaudesert Beenleigh Road end.
“Our house backs on to Bahrs Scrub road and we watch these idiots drive through all the time despite the road closed signs.”
A Fire Communications spokesperson said mum, dad, and both kids were safe, and that Logan City Police rescued them from the flooded car.
A Police media spokesperson said he didn’t have any specific information on this case, because there were so many across Logan City that Logan Police have been too busy getting locals to safety to log all of their jobs.
“There’s that many cars stuck in flood waters,” he said.
“But at least we know the family is safe.”
Mr Caisley said he wasn’t surprised by the flash flooding.
“Our house backs on to where Windaroo creek crosses Bahrs scrub road and that has flooded, but that’s nothing new. Where the car drowned is a second Windaroo creek crossing but closer to Prangley road,” he said.
“My son and I (safely) rode our bikes to the other flooded section and found the car in the photo.
“Both crossings have electronic signs that activate when the road is flooded but even now we are seeing and hearing cars driving through.
“The towie reckons the signs weren’t on when this car attempted to drive through but I find that hard to believe.”
