According to Logan City Councillor Natalie Willcocks, International Women’s Day is about ‘celebrating the achievements of women in our society’.

To celebrate, Cr Willcocks will be attending the Pretty in Pink Charity Night at Greenbank RSL being hosted by Enriching Communities.

“Women are still under-represented in key roles across many industries, not just in Australia but globally as well,” she said.

“But in an ideal world, it shouldn’t matter who is the leadership position, it should be the best person for the job.

Cr Willcocks said this quote from The Hon. Julie Bishop really resonated with her that women are capable and should be encouraged.

“I believe that as more women around the world take on leadership positions – in their communities, countries, across continents – the impact of female leadership will be profound. And let’s face it, including women in leadership teams adds a diversity of attitudes, outlooks and experience. And greater diversity means the team is more likely to come up with new ideas, more creative approaches, and more flexible thinking and responses to challenges.”

Cr Willcocks said her advice for young girls and women in Logan City is to get involved.

“Do you know what is happening in your local area? Do you know what is happening in your city? Do you know where to find out?
If you said no to these questions the first thing you need to do is find out who your local Councillor is and follow them on social media,” she said.

“Get involved in local groups or at school ask questions. Find something you are passionate about in your local area and get involved.

“If there isn’t a straight line to get to where you want to go in life, and if you need to zig and zag to get to your end goal, that is perfectly okay. Everyone is different, so don’t look sideways and compare to the person next to you. Always look forward.”
