Police have charged a 17 year old Loganholme girl and a 15 year old Pipama girl following an alleged armed robbery at Surfers Paradise overnight.
Around 1.40am, the two girls asked a 29-year-old ride-share driver for a lift on Cavill Avenue. He agreed and the girls got into the man’s 2020 Mitsubishi Outlander station-wagon.
The man began driving but at Ferny Avenue it’s alleged the girls asked the man to pull over, before one of them threatened him with a broken glass bottle and told him to get out of his vehicle.
The ride-share driver did as asked and then reported the incident to police.
A short time later, police used a Tyre Deflation Device to intercept the alleged stolen vehicle at Brisbane Road, Helensvale, where the two girls fled on foot. They were arrested a short distance away.
The girls have each been charged with one count of armed robbery and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.
Both are scheduled to appear at the Southport Children’s Court later this month.
